Top 5 Result for Morcom Motorsport in Bathurst 12 Hour                               24-2-09

Two flat tyres during the final hour has spoiled the podium chances of the Morcom Motorsport team during the Bathurst 12 Hour over the weekend at Mount Panorama in Bathurst and it resulted in them finishing back in fifth place.

The Morcom Motorsport team, which consisted of drivers Barry Morcom, Luke Searle and Paul Stubber, drove the Rondo Building Services supported BMW 335i consistently throughout the Bathurst 12 Hour as they were amongst the top three runners.

During the final hour of the race disaster struck as the Morcom Motorsport suffered two separate tyre failures and it unfortunately robbed them of a probable podium finish and they ended up finishing in fifth place and a lap down on the leader. This is the third year in succession that the Morcom Motorsport team has finished a Bathurst 12 Hour within the top five and also off the podium as they had finished in fourth place in the past two years.

“Our car ran perfectly for nearly the whole distance and it was just our tyres that let us down,” expressed a rather disappointed Barry Morcom. “Looking back over the 12 hour distance we were within podium contention and had it not been for the tyre failures then we would have broken our podium drought.”

Joining Morcom for the 2009 Bathurst 12 Hour with the Morcom Motorsport team was Luke Searle and Paul Stubber and Morcom was very pleased with how well the three of them worked together. It was Searle that placed the Morcom Motorsport BMW 335i on the front row of the grid for the Bathurst 12 Hour race after he had qualified second fastest.

“Our combination worked very well and we were pretty much all on the same pace throughout the race,” mentioned Morcom. “Luke [Searle] performed very strongly all weekend and was the fastest out of the three of us and did very well to qualify second fastest.”

Fifth place outright in the Bathurst 12 Hour was enough for the Morcom Motorsport to take out the Class A honours for the weekend.

The Morcom Motorsport team would like a say a big thanks to Garry Holt and the entire Eastern Creek Raceway International Kart Raceway team for all their efforts in the preparation of their car for this year’s Bathurst 12 Hour.

Morcom Motorsport is proudly supported in 2009 by the following organisations: Rondo Building Services, C.I.S. Group, P & I Smash Repairs, Haltech and NSW Stretch Ceilings.
